
Dr. Anu Ojaranta
Regional State Administrative Agency of South-West Finland, Turku, Finland
Ojaranta’s background is in librarianship. She has worked across Europe in various positions, including as a school librarian and a university teacher, teaching future librarians. Her doctoral thesis examined information literacy in secondary schools. Her work at the Agency consists of providing information guidance to libraries, overseeing the implementation of the Public Libraries Act, conducting information gathering and analysis, and facilitating government project financing.
Libraries enhancing reading: strategies, methods, and challenges
Ojaranta’s presentation takes a glance at reading from three different perspectives. What kind of activities have the Nordic countries taken to enhance reading and literacy? Secondly, she will briefly summarize the results of a survey conducted in Finland regarding library resources for reading and the associated challenges. Thirdly, a perspective on reading from the European Commission’s OMC working group on libraries, Building Bridges, is presented.
