Plunges orkestras

Workshop: Experimental Orchestra. Exploring Improvisation

The Plungė Public Library Orchestra (Lithuania) is a unique one-off phenomenon. The orchestra is comprised of local residents of various ages, most of whom have no formal musical education. The orchestra was prepared by professional drummer, percussionist, and composer Dalius Naujokaitis. Naujokaitis’ music signs are simple, intuitive hand gestures used to direct improvising performers and shape musical structure in real time. The orchestra is based on the signs of live composition. Music is born directly during the performance, using specific signs that are guided by all members of the orchestra. The main element of this performance is sound, which has become the central character, and the orchestra members are like natural forces, such as water or wind, that influence the sound. The community, united by the sound that erupted not only from the lips or hands but also from deep within, connected all the participants into one common creative process.
