Presentation of “Tabalai tabalai: Illustrated Proverbs of M. Valančius”

At the Baltic Countries Librarians’ Congress CoBaL, we present the illustrated edition of M. Valančius’ proverbs “Tabalai tabalai” and the educational cards created based on it. These materials are used in various educational activities that encourage reading, imagination, and creative thinking. 

In our activity, participants first complete a hands-on task: after drawing a proverb, they must find the matching illustration among the special cards. The second task is creative—participants are invited to use provided templates to create their own illustration or a short comic inspired by the proverb. 

This educational experience helps participants of all ages playfully explore the heritage of Lithuanian proverbs and develop visual storytelling skills.
