At a time when the free world is contracting, social divides are deepening, misinformation is spreading, and people’s distrust of governments is growing, libraries are becoming a unique democratic space. They help reduce people’s vulnerability and isolation, provide both technological and human assistance, bring people together, and enable cultural participation and self-education. Democracy needs libraries, but how ready are our libraries to defend democracy?
